AJATO operates comfortable speedboats upstream to Tefé (R$190, 13 hours, 7am daily except Tuesday and Sunday) and to Tabatinga and Benjamin Constant (R$420, 38 hours, Tuesday only), and downstream to Parantins (R$150, nine hours, 7am Monday and Friday). There’s also service up the Rio Madeira as far as Manicoré (R$150, 14 hours, 6am Wednesday and Friday). Service to Santarém was dropped several years ago, but there are persistent rumors it will be reinstated – here’s hoping. All trips include meals. Boats can fill up, so plan on buying your ticket a day or two in advance.
