The Three Lions have met Italy on 31 previous occasions over the years, with England enjoying nine wins, sharing nine draws but losing 13 times. Our first game came back in May 1933, when it ended in a 1-1 draw in Rome. You can see details of our last three games below:-
Created in May 1910, the Italian National Team has been around for more than a century. It’s been a story of emotions, passion and exciting triumphs together with millions of Italians of many generations: the Azzurri have won four FIFA World Cups (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006), two UEFA European Championships (1968 and 2021), an Olympic gold medal (1936) and two Olympic bronze medals (1928 and 2004).
Over the years, the National Team has become the sporting symbol of Italy throughout the world. It brought together a country that was suffering from post-unification divisions and then thrilled Italians, including many emigrants, who, even today, embrace their homeland by wearing the Azzurri shirt. The National Team has been able to preserve its unifying role, becoming the team of all Italians.
