Earthshot Prize Cape Town 2024

The Earthshot Prize represents a remarkable beacon of hope and action in the face of the planet’s environmental challenges. Founded by Prince William, the prize ignites the spirit of change by empowering individuals, communities, and innovators to dream big and tackle five key areas—protecting nature, cleaning our air, revitalizing oceans, creating a waste-free world, and repairing our climate. Inspired by humanity’s collective ability to overcome, it brings together the best minds and solutions to heal the Earth, offering winners substantial funding to scale their ideas and bring them to life globally.

This initiative is not just a call for innovation but a global rally for optimistic action. Each year, Earthshot sparks a renewed sense of purpose, reminding us that by working together with passion and ingenuity, we can restore our planet. With each finalist and winner, the Earthshot Prize demonstrates that positive change is not just possible but already happening. It stands as a transformative movement, galvanising all of us to envision and act on the promise of a sustainable, thriving future.

Inspiration

Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “Moonshot” challenge in 1962 to land a man on the moon within a decade, The Earthshot Prize was launched by Prince William in 2020 to search for and scale the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges. Change is not yet happening fast enough or at the scale we need. Levels of climate anxiety and despondency are high and political interventions are happening too slowly.

Despite all these challenges, we are optimists. We see genuine pathways to an era of regeneration and abundance. We want to unleash the urgent optimism required to accelerate and scale the environmental innovations that will repair and regenerate our planet.
