Dr. Gianluca Rubagotti, the current Consul General of Italy in Sydney, has had an impressive diplomatic career marked by various international postings. Born on June 15, 1977, in Brescia, Italy, Rubagotti holds a law degree from the University of Brescia and a Ph.D. in International Economic Law from Bocconi University. After starting his diplomatic career in 2007, Rubagotti served in numerous roles, including as the Second Secretary and later First Secretary in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and as the Consul in Karachi, Pakistan. His tenure in Singapore further solidified his international expertise.
In 2020, he was appointed Consul General of Italy in Kolkata, India, where he worked until his transfer to Sydney in January 2024. Throughout his career, Rubagotti has consistently demonstrated a commitment to fostering international relations and supporting the Italian community abroad. His new role in Sydney reflects his ongoing dedication to promoting Italy’s interests in Australia and strengthening bilateral ties.

The office serves the state of New South Wales, excluding the cities of Queanbeyan and Cooma, and is responsible for providing consular services such as visa applications, passport renewals, civil registrations, and other consular assistance to Italian citizens. The office is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 11:00 am
