Die Brücke Kölnischer Kunstverein

Long-running, minimalist museum specializing in contemporary art in a range of media. The Kölnischer Kunstverein is a nonprofit association based in Cologne, dedicated to promoting contemporary art. Founded in 1839, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious exhibition institutions for contemporary art in Germany. Since 2003, the Kunstverein has been housed in the “Brücke,” a building constructed in 1949/50 by the renowned Cologne architect Wilhelm Riphahn. This building was intended to establish a symbolic place of dialogue in the war-torn city.

Since its inception, the Kölnischer Kunstverein has showcased the new art of its time. Many artists who were exhibited here early in their careers, such as Hans Arp (1919) and Paul Klee (1932), have become prominent figures in art history.
