David Gareji Monasteri St. David Lavra, Georgia
The Davit Gareja monastery is on the Georgia – Azerbaijan border, and takes around 2 hours from Tbilisi. You can hike to the top of the hill, walk along the ridge, then return to the monastery. Takes around 1.5 – 2 hours. No bottled water here, so bring your own. The views of Azerbaijan from the top of the hill are stunning.
There is a black marshrutka leaving Tbilisi daily from Puskin street next to Freedom Square, or there are tours organised by the Envoy hostel. Failing that, many taxis offer day trips.
