Daniel Rogers, a seasoned Canadian public servant, assumed the role of Director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) on October 28, 2024. A leader whose vision and integrity define his extraordinary journey. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Director Rogers grew up with a deep sense of justice and curiosity about the world. His early years were marked by academic excellence, culminating in a degree in political science and international relations from Dalhousie University. These formative experiences set the stage for his lifelong commitment to safeguarding Canada’s national security.

Before becoming Director, Rogers began his career in public service, where his keen analytical mind and ethical approach quickly distinguished him. Rising through the ranks of the intelligence community, he became known for his ability to navigate complex global threats with precision and foresight. As Director of CSIS, he embraced the challenge of leading during an era of evolving security risks, reinforcing Canada’s position as a global leader in intelligence. • A seasoned public servant with over two decades of experience in national security and intelligence, Mr. Daniel Rogers most recently served as Deputy National Security and Intelligence Advisor (NSIA) to the Prime Minister since May 2023, where he supported the NSIA in coordinating and providing advice to the Prime Minister and Government on national security issues.
• Concurrently, Mr. Rogers also served as Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Emergency Preparedness), in support of the Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Cabinet on issues relating to federal emergency preparedness and response.
• Prior to these appointments, Mr. Rogers served as Associate Chief of the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) since January 2022. He spent the majority of his career with CSE, starting in 2002 as a software developer before moving on to various leadership roles including leadership of classified intelligence programs, the Director of Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) Requirements, and the Deputy Chief of Signals Intelligence.
• From 2016 to 2018, he was seconded to the Privy Council Office as the Director of Operations within the Security and Intelligence Secretariat, where he held responsibilities for coordinating Cabinet business and operational issues relating to national security and intelligence, counter-terrorism, and emergency management.
• Mr. Rogers holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Dalhousie University with First Class Honours. He subsequently completed the Certificate Program in Public Sector Leadership and Governance from the University of Ottawa.
• In 2012, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

CSIS

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is Canada’s primary national intelligence agency, responsible for safeguarding the country’s security by collecting, analyzing, and reporting on threats. Established in 1984 under the CSIS Act, the agency operates within a framework that emphasizes protecting Canada’s sovereignty, democracy, and public safety. It plays a vital role in identifying and mitigating threats such as terrorism, espionage, foreign interference, cyberattacks, and organized crime.

It is responsible for gathering, processing, and analyzing national security information from around the world and conducting covert action within Canada and abroad. CSIS reports to the Minister of Public Safety, and is subject to review by the National Security and Intelligence Review Agency.
