Culture Yard, Main Stage, Helsingør, Copenhagen Region, Denmark

The Culture Yard has been created in the old shipyard in Elsinore harbour, and with the opening of the 13,000 square metre experience centre, the first step has been taken towards new cultural activities in Elsinore.

The Culture Yard consists of Elsinore’s main library full of modern facilities, a large and a small stage, the Yard Museum, exhibition hall, eatery, arcade, meeting facilities and workshops. Here, under one roof, you will find music performances, plays, lectures, exhibitions, good food and social activities.

The opening of the Culture Yard is the first step in a large-scale revitalisation of Elsinore’s old wharfs. The landscape project Culture Harbour Kronborg will emphasise the unique position of Kronborg Castle, strengthen its outer fortifications and modernise Elsinore Harbour. At the same time, a unique maritime museum of an international format and designed by Denmark’s prize-winning architects BIG, is to be built in a former dry dock.

Elsinore Council’s ambition is to develop an entirely new urban quarter that can connect the city, the harbour and Kronborg Castle. In the longer term it will also gather a number of cultural institutions and offer creative opportunities for artistic productions and an inspired environment.
