Cultural Center René FOURNIER

The Sénoufo Cultural Center René Fournier is an institution based in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, which carries out a collection, safeguarding and enhancement of the Senufo cultural heritage, through its Research Center for the Safeguarding and Promotion of Senoufo Culture.

Created at the initiative of the diocese of Bobo Dioulasso, with funds from the René Fournier Foundation *, the Center has been operating since 2005 under the direction of Father Matthieu.

René Fournier is a French white father who arrived in Diou (Mali) in 1952 who, during tours in his sector, discovers and is passionate about Senufo culture. During his years of service to the public, he will collect many objects and documents representative of the Senufo heritage, so much so that it constitutes a true collection.

After his death, his family created, in the continuity of his action, a Foundation. To make it live, it finances the construction and operation of two cultural centers that have set themselves the goal of collecting, developing and disseminating the Senufo culture, based on its heritage:

A first in Sikasso, Mali, with the help of Father Emilio,

A second in Bobo Dioulasso, the Research Center for the Safeguarding and Promotion of Senoufo Culture, built in 2005 with the help of Father Matthieu and the archbishop of the city, Bishop Anselme T. Sanon.
