Corpus Christi Basilica, Krakow, Malopolskie Voivodeship, Poland

This spectacular monumental brick creation is a wonderful sight. Taking up a considerable space, the brickwork so extensive is admirable. Viewed from a neighbouring street, it presents an unexpectedly differing perspective, with the fine tower more defined.

Walking through the impressive entrance gate, the sheer scale of the edifice became apparent. Up close the craftsmanship of the stone work was inspiring.

The breathtaking response continued as we walked in. The style and ornamentation is a mixture of Gothic and Baroque. The former was obvious in the soaring columns and archways, the upper portions with light filled lunettes. The ceiling with the patterned decoration is delightful.

One of the highlights is the symbolically embellished golden pulpit, being in the shape of a boat with a couple of mermaids supporting it. At the top can be seen oars and a mast.
