City Beach
Casual, residential City Beach is a busy spot for summer barbecues and surfing, with its fine sand and strong waves. Open-air cafes serve smoothies and spicy fish tacos, while upscale, glass-fronted seafood restaurants overlook the Indian Ocean from a striking modern complex centred on the landmark, ship-shaped City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club. Adjoining grassy terraces draw sunset-watchers.
City Beach is generally quieter than neighboring beaches and offers all public amenities like toilets, showers, change rooms. It even has BBQ facilities situated on the grassed area directly above the beach. There is a huge playground for the kids, and in the summer months visitors can enjoy the free beach volleyball nets. Head past the northern groyne to the next bay to walk your beloved pets at the dog-friendly beach. Sunset (and cocktail) lovers you can perch up at ultra-stylish Hamptons or Odyssea beach restaurants to enjoy quality food and beverage. For something a bit more family friendly Clancy’s Fish Pub offers a relaxed beachy atmosphere. City Beach Surf Life Saving Club patrol the beach in the summer months, with a surf lifesaving tower at the end of the southern groyne as an extra level of surveillance.
