Cité internationale de la tapisserie Aubusson, Aubusson,Limousin, France

In Aubusson (Creuse), Sunday, July 10, the International Tapestry City will open its doors to the public, with a goal: “Contribute to the influence of a know-how and practice that have made the Aubusson tapestry a label of international renown “ , underlines its director, Emmanuel Gérard.

Behind its monumental facade evoking the multicolored weft of the loom, designed by graphic designer Margaret Gray, the new complex has 5,000 square meters. It is both a museum, with a collection labeled “Museum of France”, including 330 tapestries (with reserves and restoration workshop), “but also a place of conservation and dissemination, a resource center, a space of training and support of the sector and the economic development tool of a sensitive territory ,  adds Gérard. The south of the Creuse blows a crying demographic decline. Aubusson, population 3,500, had 5,000 in 2000 .

The burst took place in 2009, while the application file for UNESCO was retained. The organization inscribed the Aubusson tapestry on the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
