Circo Lescun, Lescun, Aquitaine, France

Lescun is one of the most beautiful and spectacular natural spaces of the Aspe / Jacetania territory. The wonderful natural circus is surrounded by mythical peaks of over 2,000 meters, such as the Table of the Three Kings, Anie, Ansabere Needles, Billere, Acherito or the Soum Couy. It is a paradise for lovers of climbing and hiking, because it offers a variety of slopes and difficulties that can hardly be found elsewhere in the environment. The mass of Billere (2,309 meters), is the top that dominates the view from the beautiful village of Lescun. It is also one of the great geographical barriers that divides the circus in several areas: the southern part that gives access to the Port of Palo and Oza, the small valley that leads to the Needles of Ansabere and Petrechema and in the north the plateau of Sanchese .

The sharp and proud summits that surround the great circus emerge as calcareous bites that form a decoration of superb beauty. All this set of summits has earned the denomination of the “Dolomites of the Pyrenees” and its sharp profiles belong to the steepest side of the mountain range, where beauty and danger make up a dizzying mix. Mountaineering enthusiasts will be able to face the challenge of climbing the rocky peak of Billere, which assumes much of the role of the background decoration. From its summit the views are impressive. The folds of Lescun overlap to the unmistakable profile of the Midi d’Ossau. Beyond is the Balaitus, to the southeast the Sierra de Aísa and the Bermera, emerging over the impressive Selva de Oza, in the Spanish valley of Hecho.

If we keep turning we will be able to contemplate to the southwest an unrepeatable sequence of mythical Pyrenean peaks, in the most western end of the mountain range. They are summits that still do not reach 3,000 meters but that begin to announce the Pyrenean grandeur. Acherito and the Table of the Three Kings with the Needles of Ansabere in the middle, as if wanting to watch both colossi. To the north the circus closes with the Auñamendi-Anie and the striking Orgues de Camplong. To the west we will see unmistakable the karstic plateau of Larra, one of the most surprising and captivating spectacles of the Navarrese Pyrenees.
