Church of Nativity of Most Holy Mother of God, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia
This church is notable for its pseudo-Russian gingercake style, later called Stroganov barocco, authentic and an excellent example of its time, built under Peter the Great by a rich merchant Stroganov, colonisator of Siberia whose pink house is just across the road.
One of its early visitors a french poet Théophile Gautier noted in his Russian travel diary that in terms of architecture this church genuine barbaric luxury is actually more interesting to see than all those pompous pseudo-Roman imitations around St.Petersburg
