Chemin De Fer Touristique Haut Quercy, Martel, Midi-Pyrenees, France

Carved in the cliff of Mirandol, overlooking the Dordogne 80 m, this part of the former railway line from Bordeaux to Aurillac was built between 1880 and 1884, and put into service in 1889. With its commissioning, this line competed with barge traffic (flat-bottomed boats) on “River Hope”.

Defendered in 1917 for the military needs of the First World War, it was rebuilt in 1919 with the American rail still in place to date from Martel to St-Denis .
