Château d’Yvoire, Yvoire, Rhone-Alpes, France

The strategic situation of Yvoire, sentinel of Lake Geneva , had not escaped the Count Amédée V Le Grand (1249-1323) who undertook important works of fortifications from 1306, in full war delphino-savoyarde. For half a century, the village played a very important military role which earned its inhabitants the obtaining of “franchises” in 1324. Important documents of great rarity concerning this period were kept in the Departmental Archives and give us valuable information on the construction of the town, the identity of its inhabitants and the major events of the 14th century.
