Central Pier Big Wheel
Fantastic news for sightseers and height-lovers – Blackpool is to get a brand new BIGbigwheel in the best place for a great view! As part of a £4m upgrade, the new BigWheel is being built on Blackpool Central Pier. After taking a year to build, owners are expecting it to open in Summer 2023 (subject to planning approval).
Central Pier, Blackpool (Feb. 2006) (South Pier is in distance) The pier is central in that it is located between the other two, but it was close to the site of the now-defunct Blackpool Central railway station about 550 yards south of Blackpool Tower.Since the coastline is very straight and flat, the pier simply extends at right angles to the sea front, roughly level with the promenade.
