Céline Berthon

Céline Berthon was appointed Direction Générale de la Sécurité Intérieure on December 20th, 2023. The former Head of the National Police Active Services, she acted as Central Director of Public Security (2021 – 2023) before being appointed Deputy Director General of the National Police in May 2023.

Upon graduating from the National Superior Police Academy (École nationale supérieure de la police) in 2000, she began her career in public safety by overseeing several police precincts in the Paris region, before integrating the Headquarters of the Central Directorate for Public Safety (2005-2009).

In 2009, she joined the Sub Directorate of General Information (Sous-direction de l’information générale or SDIG), which stemmed from the reorganization of the General Intelligence (Renseignements généraux or RG) reorganization, before serving a term as Secretary General of the National Police Commissioners’ Union.

Céline Berthon joined the DGSI body tasked with the fight against terrorism in 2018, before acting as Chief of Staff for the Director General of National Police in 2020.

DGSI

DGSI stands for Direction Générale de la Sécurité Intérieure, which translates to General Directorate for Internal Security. It’s the domestic intelligence agency of France, responsible for counter-terrorism, counter-espionage, and national security within the country. Established in 2008, it operates under the authority of the French Ministry of the Interior.
