Cathedral of the Virgin of the Sign, Veliky Novgorod, Novgorod Oblast, Russia 

The Znamensky cathedral was built on 1688 for the icon of “Virgin of the Sign”. Typical monument of Russian architecture of the XVII century. Facade is decorated with mural paintings and tiled inserts. Interior painting is made Kostroma masters in 1702, well preserved, interesting motives secular character. Among the figures of a huge composition “Last Judgement”, which occupies the entire western wall, there is a picture of a man in a short “German” clothes and shoes, whose facial features are remarkably similar to the Russian Tsar Peter I.
