Castle Murat, Pizzo VV, Italy

The history of the castle is linked to the death of Joachim Murat, King of Naples, valiant man, fearless in Pizzo sought victory and the reconquest of his kingdom, and instead met his death. This neat little 15th-century castle is named for Joachim Murat, supporter of Napoleon Bonaparte. He was captured in Pizzo and sentenced to death for treason in 1815. The Castle, improperly in reality was never a mansion but always a military fortress and prison. The events of this fortress are closely related to the historical events of Pizzo and to the families who lived and ruled here.
