Casa de la Virgen María, Selçuk, Ismir

The House of the Virgin Mary is a Catholic and Muslim sanctuary on the hill of Bülbül Dag ( “Mount Rossignol”) near Ephesus, seven kilometers from Selcuk. A Jacobian Syrian tradition relates that Mary was taken to this place by John the Evangelist after the crucifixion of Christ, fleeing persecution in Jerusalem, that John had him build a small house where Mary remained until his Assumption, or Dormition according to the Orthodox.
