Cânion Itaimbezinho, Cambará do Sul, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
The Itaimbezinho Canyon is the star of the region. It is the most famous canyon and also one of the most beautiful. Its walls measure 5.8 km long, 720 meters deep and 600 meters wide. The name is of Tupi-Guarani origin, allusive to the Indians, the first inhabitants of the place, and means “ita = stone” and “aimbé = cut, sharp”.
That is, cut stone or sharp stone. Itaimbezinho is located in the Aparados da Serra National Park, a preservation unit maintained by ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute of Conservation and Biodiversity) and created in 1959.
