Camping Tinnsjø Kro, Miland, Telemark, Norway

The building that Tinnsjø Kro is in, has not always been on Meal. It was built as a hotel: Rjukan H otel, and stood next to Krokan Tourist Cabin (which was moved from the top of the gorge to where it stands) at Rjukanfossen. It was the Norwegian Tourist Association that owned the building first. Up at Krokan Tourist Cabin there is a bauta with four boards, where you can read about the history of the building, etc.

Tourism in Norway started slowly in the years after 1814, and the cradle of the industry was just here in the Vestfjord valley. It was first and foremost the national romantic painters Johannes Flintoe, W. Carpelan, JC Dahl and Joachim Frinch who made this inner part of Telemark known. In their footsteps, tourists who would experience the beautiful valley and the river Måna, Gaustatoppen and the dramatic and impressive Rjukanfossen followed.
