Buraco das Araras Ecoturismo, Jardim, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil
Buraco das Araras (Macaws’ Hole) deserves its name, because it consists of an impressive sink hole, that over 100 red macaw couples have chosen as home.
The sink hole is over 160 meters in diameter and around 100 meters deep. It is known as one of the largest in the world.
The macaws, most of which are red macaws, make their nests in the crevices they find on the rock walls. Other species take advantage of the same kind of formation and several of them make traditional nests in the trees that are both inside and around the outside of the sink hole.
The area surrounding the sink hole is a large preserved area.
