British Embassy Eritrea

The British Embassy in Eritrea maintains and develops relations between the UK and Eritrea. British Ambassador Ian Richards

 British Ambassador Ian Richards succeeded David Ward as British Ambassador to Eritrea in July 2016. Ian Richards has served as a UK diplomat in Shanghai, Beijing, Caracas, and as interim head of post at the UK embassies in Ashgabat, Bamako and Conakry.

He has served at the London headquarters of the UK’s trade and investment promotion agency, at the Commission for Africa in London, and on secondment to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. The Ambassador represents Her Majesty The Queen and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
