Belém City Hall

The Belém City Hall, known as Palácio Antônio Lemos, serves as the seat of the municipal government of Belém, the capital of the state of Pará in northern Brazil. Located in the historic Cidade Velha neighborhood, the palace is situated at Praça Dom Pedro II, with the postal code 66020-240. Constructed between 1860 and 1885 during the rubber boom, the building was originally named Palacete Azul and later became known as Casa no Largo do Palácio.

Designed by José Coelho da Gama e Abreu, it predominantly follows the late neoclassical style, also known in Brazil as “Empire style”. The palace has housed various municipal institutions over the years, including the Court of Appeals, the Board of Trade, the municipal Council, and the Chamber of Deputies. Since 1994, it has functioned as both the City Hall and the Belém Museum of Art (Museu de Arte de Belém – MABE), showcasing regional art and culture.
