Barka Fort, Al Batinah South Governorate, Oman
With its unusual octagonal tower and location fending off incursions from the sea, Barka Fort cuts a dash along Barka’s busy coastline, flanked by several adjacent watchtowers. It has been closed for restoration for some time but is still impressive from the outside.
To reach the fort from the town centre (4.5km from the Muscat–Sohar Hwy), turn right at the T-intersection; it’s 300m on the left.
