Baku Congress Center, Baku, Azerbaijan
Baku’s new convention centre is conceived to complement the Heydar Aliyev Center in many ways, acting as the ‘dancing partner’ alongside the existing cultural centre. At the urban level, the new convention centre perfectly fulfils its complementary role. Its open structure allows for unobstructed views onto the Heydar Aliyev Center, while at the same time it defines a public space that connects both buildings, allowing them to work as one.
This public space will become ‘the convention square’ – partially sheltered by the large roof of the convention centre and scattered with a variety of landscape elements, like fountains, seating areas and garden beds.
