The Baikal Museum of the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (BM INC SB RAS) was granted the status of an independent research institution in 1993.
The scientific direction of the Baikal Museum is a study of the features of the evolution of the ecosystem of Lake Baikal. Theme – “The study of some elements of the ecosystem of Lake Baikal based on the results of full-scale and experimental studies as a reflection of changes in abiotic environmental factors in the Quaternary period.” Scientific work is conducted in the following areas:
Study on the basis of full-scale and experimental studies of morphological features, species composition, population structure, life cycles on the example of fish, parasitic organisms of Baikal seals and birds.
Improvement of the system for collecting and transmitting information in real time from specially protected natural areas of the Baikal region.
Introduction of methods of innovative technologies for presenting fundamental knowledge about the climate and biota of the Lake Baikal region.
The exhibition and educational activities of the Baikal Museum are aimed at shaping the ecological outlook of the population of the Baikal region with the help of innovative scientific and educational and educational technologies.
The basis of the museum’s work in this direction are expositions and educational activities.
