A former wine warehouse transformed into a cultural and leisure center, featuring exhibitions, a library, and a rooftop pool. Azkuna Zentroa, formerly known as Alhóndiga Bilbao, is a striking example of Bilbao’s transformation from industrial hub to cultural epicenter. Housed in a former wine warehouse designed by Ricardo Bastida in 1909, the building was reimagined by Philippe Starck in 2012 into a vibrant civic center that blends historical architecture with contemporary design. The interior features 43 uniquely designed columns, each symbolizing different cultures and histories, creating a dynamic space for art, leisure, and community engagement.
