Assamo Protected Area, UNESCO, Djibouti
The terrestrial natural area of Assamo is located in the region of Ali-Sabieh and has an area of 15 km ². It is the natural habitat of the Beira antelope , unique representative of the genus ” Dorcatragus megalotis ” and native of Somalia.
The particularity of this specific antelope is to live only in the arid and mountainous reliefs of this region of the Horn of Africa. The terrestrial natural area of Assamo is a biotope essential to the maintenance of the Beira antelope.
