Arco de la Estrella, Cáceres, Spain
The Arco de la Estrella, traditional entrance to the Monumental City of Caceres, came to replace the New Gate fifteenth century building. Joins the Plaza Mayor and Plaza de Santa María both powerhouses of the city for centuries. Baroque style, was built by Manuel de Larra Churriguera in the eighteenth century on a fifteenth century building, it is an arch of large amplitude and skew, made in this way to facilitate the passage of the carriages to the Monumental City. It is built by perforation of the wall, which retains its battlement. On the back there is a shrine that is the statue of Our Lady of the Star which gives the name to the arc. It is considered the most important gate of the Monumental City, as it was the place chosen by the Catholic Queen to swear the Jurisdictions and privileges in 1477, in this same arc swore the Fueros city King Fernando “The Catholic” in 1479 also called New gate, as the last gate built into the wall.
