Alagoinha, as it was better known, arose from a dissidence of the Pajussara Yacht Club in April 1962 and its constitution took place in 1963, after a meeting coordinated by Jair Galvão Freire and Paulo Nunes Costa. Among the founding partners was also José Pimentel de Paiva.

Most of the founding group had taken part in the creation of the Yacht Club Pajussara in 1952, after a quarrel with the Brazilian Racing Club.
