Amphithéâtre Gallo Romain, Saintes, Poitou-Charentes, France

The Gallo-Roman amphitheater, built in 40-50 AD, is leaned in the hollow of a natural valley. An almost rural pedestrian route allows access from the city. Its grandiose dimensions reflect the power of the city in the first century.

Today, it is one of the best preserved amphitheatres in France. Down in the arena, it is easy to imagine the clamor of 15,000 spectators.

It is necessary to rest on the steps, to approach the dark Gate of the Dead and to emerge from the arena, such as the victorious fighters, by the luminous “Door of the Living”.
Shop and tea room on site.

The bonus for families is the game booklet that awaits children between 7 and 12 years old (also available in English)! Once the booklet filled, children can correct it and earn their diploma of “best Gallo-Roman” or “best Gallo-Roman”!
