Born on March 3, 1976, Stephanie Al-Qaq pursued higher education at the University of Birmingham and the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. Her academic journey laid a strong foundation for her future in international diplomacy, equipping her with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate complex global challenges.

Stephanie Al-Qaq began her professional journey in 1998, working with organizations such as Reuters, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the House of Commons, and the Department for International Development. These roles, spanning the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, provided her with a broad understanding of international affairs and human rights, shaping her approach to diplomacy.

Joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2002, she quickly rose through the ranks, holding key positions including Desk Officer for Iraq, Assistant Private Secretary to the Minister of State for the Middle East, Counter Terrorism, and Consular, and Political Counsellor in Brasília, Brazil. Her career has taken her to Mexico City, Abu Dhabi, and various leadership roles in the Middle East and Iran, culminating in her historic appointment as Ambassador to Brazil.

Stephanie Al-Qaq is married to Dr. Kareem Richard Al-Qaq, a political scientist, and they have three children. Her exceptional service to British foreign policy was recognized when she was appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the 2023 New Year Honours.
