Ambassador Peter Wilson CMG

His Excellency Peter Wilson CMG, the British Ambassador to China since August 2025, is a seasoned diplomat whose career reflects a steadfast commitment to fostering international cooperation and understanding. Born on 31 March 1968, he is the son of David Wilson, Baron Wilson of Tillyorn, a former Governor of Hong Kong, highlighting his deep-rooted connection to China and its rich history.

Educated at Eton College and Merton College, Oxford, Wilson further honed his expertise with a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. His diplomatic journey began in 1992 with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), leading to a pivotal posting in Beijing from 1995 to 1998, where he studied Mandarin at the University of International Business and Economics.

Throughout his distinguished career, Wilson has held several significant positions: Ambassador to Brazil (2021–2022), Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) (2017–2020), Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2013–2017), and Director-General for Europe at the FCDO (2023–2024).

In his current role in Beijing, Ambassador Wilson is dedicated to strengthening UK-China relations, emphasising collaboration in trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. His leadership is instrumental in navigating the complexities of international relations, promoting mutual understanding, and building bridges between nations.
