Almaty Tower, Almaty, Kazakhstan

Marvel at the giant 371.5 m tall “syringe” of Almaty Television Tower, the world’s tallest tubular steel structure, built on the slopes of Kok Tobe Mountain near Almaty. Completed in 1983, this fabulous piece of Soviet engineering captures and broadcasts signal across rugged mountains, dominating a spectacular landscape. Observe Almaty from the deck below the tower in a small park with a mini-zoo, a restaurant, and a cafe. Designed to withstand earthquakes of up to 10 on the Richter scale, this modern steel structure features two observation decks at 146 m (479 ft) and 252 m (827 ft), accessible by two high-speed elevators. Part of Kok Tobe Park, you can take a cable car near the tower, and enjoy a meal or a coffee at its base.
