Allakuli Khan Caravanserai, Jiva, Uzbekistán

The madrasa was built in the years 1834-1835 with money from Allakuli Khan, who at that time ruled in Khiva. It is considered one of the best examples of the architecture of Khorezm, the last period of the Middle Ages. In the madrassa the traditionalism, proportionality and amplitude of the architecture are harmoniously combined. A rather austere decoration is used, but at the same time surprisingly elegant, the portal and arched niches are decorated with the traditional Khorezm majolica in blue, white and black tones.

On the ground floor of the madrasah in the 19th century, the city’s library was located, which was in great demand among the students of all the madrasahs of Khiva.
