Alexandrovskaya Sloboda, Aleksandrov, Alexandrov, Vladimirskaya oblast, Russia
Alexandrovskaya Sloboda used to be the royal residence under the tsar Ivan the Terrible in mid 16th century. The tsar picked this spot as it it was on the main route linking Moscow, Trinity Laura and the Northern provinces incliding Vologda. Now it is a green park dotted with several churches and secular residences all of which are surrounded by brick white walls.
If you are planning to visit on your own, it is advisable to travel by suburban train (eletrichka) from Moscow to station Alexandrov-1. From the railway station it is a good 25 min walk to the museum. Most of the public buses run along the main drag between the railway station and the museum.
