The city of Asklepios, the god of health, is known as the ancient city of Bergama, a health center. Galenos, known as the father of the pharmacy BC II. He was born in Bergama in the Millennium. The snake medicine symbol, still valid today, was first used in Bergama.
Also in the ancient city known as the place where the first psychotherapeutic treatment is performed through water voice and suggestion, there are shops of Hellenistic period, remains of ancient king Athalos, city square, sanctuary of Athena, library, theater, places of Dionysus temple.
In 1865, the remnants of Zeus Altar, discovered in the excavations of German archaeologists in the acropolis of the ancient city, were moved to Germany. These pieces are now exhibited at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.
