Akbas Cemetary, Yalova Köyü, Eceabat, Çanakkale, Turkey
After 12 km of Eceabat on the Gallipoli-Istanbul highway, the sign on the left side shows the Akbas Cemetery, which is 200 meters inside and 6 meters long built in 1945.
The port of Akbas, which he was in his martyrdom, was one of the main supply ports of the 5th Ottoman Army, which defended the region from 24 March 1915 under the command of General Liman Von Sanders in 1915. The vessels carrying supplies, supplies and soldiers from Istanbul to the front were coming up in this darkness at night. Akbas Port was one of the places where the material and soldiers were distributed and was also one of the places where wounded soldiers were transported to other hospitals along the shores of Istanbul and Marmara Sea.
This space, which had been constantly against the international war rules due to this position, was exposed to the throat bombardments of the Allied naval forces on the Saros shores and to the attacks of the enemy seafarers holding the road of the Marmara and succeeding in crossing the net webs of the throat, and suffered one of the most painful events of history on 2 July 1915. On that day, Aleppo, who takes anchor from the throat waters to take the wounded people to Istanbul, is hit by enemy bombardment while the ferry is leaving the harbor and is buried in the waters with our wounded soldiers.
