Aisha Bibi Mausoleum, Kazakhstan
Erected in the 11th century for a woman of noble blood, Aisha Bibi Mausoleum is covered in terracotta tiles with over 60 floral and geometrical ornaments. Using light instead of color, the builders made the structure look like it’s covered in lace–this design is complemented by the ornamental pre-Islamic style of the corner columns.
