Agostinho Neto Memorial, Luanda, Angola

After the death of Dr. António Agostinho Neto, on 10 September 1979, in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Government of the Republic of Angola in the 1980s commissioned the Project Institute of the former USSR, the project for the construction of a Mausoleum to house the remains of the President.

The launching of the first stone occurred on September 17, 1982, by the President of the Republic Eng. José Eduardo dos Santos, but with the worsening of the political, military, economic and social situation that Angola faced until the 1990s, works were suspended .

In 1998, the project was redesigned, and work was resumed in January 2005 and completed in January 2011.
The following year, on September 17, 2012, the President of the Republic Eng. José Eduardo dos Santos inaugurated the building today called Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial, with the aim of perpetuating the memory of the first President as Leader of the Fight of Liberation, Statesman, Man of Culture and Humanist. As established in the Organic Statute, the purpose of the Memorial is to research and preserve the life and work of Dr. António Agostinho Neto, as well as to promote knowledge of African culture and artistic training.
