Australian Olympic Committee

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) is the national body responsible for Australia’s participation in the Olympic Games. Established in 1895, it is one of the oldest national Olympic committees in the world. The AOC’s mission is to promote the Olympic movement in Australia, support Australian athletes in their preparation and participation in the Olympics, and ensure the country’s representation at the Games. It operates as a non-profit organization and is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The AOC also oversees the development and implementation of programs to foster sportsmanship, excellence in sports, and the Olympic values across Australia

The AOC is governed by an Executive Board and is currently led by President Ian Chesterman, who was elected in April 2022. The committee organizes Australia’s teams for both the Summer and Winter Olympics, as well as the Youth Olympic Games. It provides funding, logistical support, and resources to athletes and their sports organizations. Additionally, the AOC is involved in the bid processes for hosting Olympic events, such as the successful bid for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The committee’s headquarters is located in Sydney, and it works closely with various national sports federations to promote and develop sports in Australia.
