The Rosengart Collection, Luzern, Switzerland

Along with Picasso and Klee, the Rosengart Collection puts a clear emphasis on Classical Modernism, featuring several of its major exponents and exceptional works of the highest artistic merit.

The collection is a subjective choice, lovingly assembled by the collectors and reflecting their likes and preferences. It has acquired its international reputation on the strength of unique groups of works by Picasso and Klee: 125 watercolours, drawings and paintings by Klee covering all periods of his work, and 32 impressive paintings, 100 or so drawings, watercolours and graphic and sculptural works culled from Picasso’s later years. The other artists featured – including Monet, Cézanne, Vuillard, Bonnard, Matisse, Braque, Léger, Miró and Chagall – were instrumental in moving art into abstraction.
