San Miniato al Monte is a basilica in Florence, central Italy, standing atop one of the highest points in the city. It has been described as one of the finest Romanesque structures in Tuscany and one of the most scenic churches in Italy. From 27 April 1018 a small community of monks has the privilege of guarding the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, an ancient garrison of peace, beauty and hope for Florence and, as might suggest the prophet Isaiah, “a house of prayer for all peoples”.
