The island of Vozrozhdeniya was the main island in the interior of the Aral Sea. As a result of the diversion of the rivers that fed the Aral Sea, a drastic reduction of the level of the waters of the Sea of Aral occurred, and the island became a peninsula. It is now a territory divided between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
