Nariman Narimanov Monument, Baku, Azerbaijan
Nariman Narimanov was the communist hero of Azerbaijan. He was a Bolshevik revolutionary. He was also a statesman, writer and a journalist. He was considered a leader of Lenin’s stature. What makes this monument unique is the fact that after the fall of Soviet Union in 1991 most of the Soviet era political statues and monuments were demolished but this one was left untouched because the Azeri’s believed that he was a national hero. There is a metro station named after Narimanov too.
