Dartlo Village, Georgia

Dartlo village is situated 2,000 meters above sea level by the Alazani River, on the northern slope of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. It is distinguished by its vernacular architecture with dry masonry and stone-slated roofs, where residents have sustained their ancestors’ culture and pattern of life.

Historic Dartlo village – located in Tusheti in north-eastern Georgia – is the focus of new restoration work that will repair many of the buildings in the village and restore traditional features, such as slate roofs. The restoration of 28 houses within the current stage is set to be completed later this year. The initiative is co-financed by the World Bank and the Georgian Government.
