Church of Senhora Saude, Mozambique
The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Saúde was founded by Capuchin friars in 1633. It was reconstructed in 1801 and received a neo-classical façade at that point.
To the right is the Hospital de Moçambique; it is the largest building complex on Mozambique Island. It was constructed in 1877 by the Portuguese in a neo-classical style, complete with a garden with ponds and fountains. For many years it was the biggest hospital south of the Sahara. Today, only a fraction is used as a modest district hospital. It is in a desolate condition, and most of the complex is in various stages of collapse.
